An official who oversees fire and medical emergency responses in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough was gravely injured in a Wasilla motorcycle crash Thursday night.
Word of 51-year-old Ken Barkley's single-vehicle crash on Wasilla-Fishhook Road near Summit Circle first reached Alaska State Troopers at about 6:30 p.m., according to a dispatch. Barkley was taken to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, where staff listed him in critical condition Friday morning.
"(Barkley) was southbound on Wasilla-Fishhook when his motorcycle left the roadway and ejected him from the motorcycle," troopers wrote.
Troopers said Barkley, who wasn't wearing a helmet, was flown to Anchorage with serious injuries.

Borough officials will choose an interim director Friday to fulfill Barkley's duties while he recuperates, Moosey said.
