Thief River Falls, Minnesota
No injuries were reported when a school bus and SUV collided at an intersection in Thief River Falls Thursday morning, but the bus driver was cited in the incident.
The Minnesota State Patrol responded to a crash involving a GMC SUV and school bus with three children on board at 8:13 a.m. Thursday, according to Sgt. Jesse Grabow.
The school bus was traveling north on Oakland Park Road and attempted to go northeast onto Minnesota Highway 32 from a stop sign when it collided with a GMC SUV heading north.
No injuries were reported in the incident, but Grabow said the bus driver, 57-year-old Tracy Pueringer of Thief River Falls, was issued a citation for failure to yield the right-of-way from a stop sign. Thief River Falls Public Schools Superintendent Bradley Bergstrom told the Herald the bus was a district vehicle.
He said in any accident, the district will do a chemical test on the bus driver and the driver will review the incident with a transportation officer. Extra training may be deemed necessary after the review, he said.
"This happens to be one of our best drivers when it comes to safety," Bergstrom said.
Bergstrom said he believed the driver yielded to one car at the stop sign, but did not see a second vehicle and entered the intersection.
"Thank goodness nobody was hurt," Bergstrom said.
