Frederick County, MD : Boyds man dead in crash between motorcycle and delivery truck on U.S. 15 at Orndorff Road near Thurmont on Thursday morning, March 10, 2016
A motorcyclist was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 15 north of Thurmont, according to state police.
The crash happened at 10:30 a.m. on northbound U.S. 15 at Orndorff Road when a white 2007 Chevrolet HHR, driven by Walkersville resident Kevin Smith, turned into the path of a maroon 2015 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle ridden by Roy Briggs, according to a Maryland State Police news release. Briggs, a Boyds resident, struck the right fender of the SUV and was thrown from the motorcycle and killed, the release states.
Smith was not hurt in the crash, according to the news release.
State police collision reconstruction experts determined that Briggs was northbound on U.S. 15 when the crash took place, the release states. Neither alcohol nor excessive speed was considered a factor in the crash, said Cpl. David Most, a state police supervisor.
The crash initially closed northbound U.S. 15, but both lanes were reopened as of 2 p.m., Most confirmed.
An investigation of the crash remained ongoing, and a search of online court records showed that no charges had been filed as of Thursday afternoon.
