Hays, KS : Otis man, 27, injured in two-vehicle crash on U.S. 183 in Ellis County on Monday, May 2, 2016

A two-vehicle crash at 4:17 p.m. Monday on U.S. 183 in Ellis County sent Nicholas Erik Mitchell, 27, of Otis, to Hays Medical Center.

The other two people in the accident, driver Katelyn Jo Rippe, 27, of Hays, and passenger Paxton Rippe, age 1, of Hays, were not injured.

Mitchell was driving a 2004 Ford F250 south on U.S. 183.

Rippe also was headed south on the highway and driving a 2013 Ford Edge.

When Rippe attempted to make a left turn onto Mt. Pleasant Road, Mitchell’s F250 struck the rear of Rippe’s vehicle, causing the F250 to spin and come to rest on its side in the west ditch, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol report.

All three people were wearing a safety restraint.
