Biggs,CA : Coroner’s Office identifies man killed in Highway 99 crash on January, Thursday 11th 2018
The man killed in a crash Friday on Highway 99 near Biggs has been identified.
The Butte County Coroner’s Office said Thursday he is Robert McKay-Draughon, 28, of Oroville.
According to the California Highway Patrol, McKay-Draughon was driving south on the highway in a stolen Honda Accord about 7:30 p.m. Friday when he allowed his car the drift into the northbound lane for unknown reasons.
McKay-Draughon first sideswiped a northbound pickup before crashing head-on into a northbound Chevrolet Suburban.
The collision pinned McKay-Draughon in his driver’s seat, and he died at the scene.
Officers said he was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Suburban suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Oroville Hospital.
The CHP said it is investigating whether alcohol played a role in the crash.
Officers said the Honda McKay-Draughon was driving was involved in a car chase with Chico police the same day of the crash.
