A Lifeflight of Maine helicopter took a man to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after a two-vehicle crash on Route 136t in Durham on Friday night.
Richard Gary, 36, of Durham, was driving a 2011 Honda CRZ south when he attempted to pass several vehicles and his vehicle struck a northbound Subaru Outback station wagon driven by Jason Smith, 35, of Leeds, Trooper Jon Russell of the state police said.
It occurred on Route 136, south of the intersection of Old Brunswick Road. Route 136 is also known as Royalsborough Road, Russell said.
The Durham Fire Department extricated Gary from his vehicle after the crash, which was reported at 6:35 p.m. Gary's injuries were later considered non-life-threatening, Russell said.
He suffered a broken leg and upper body injuries.
Smith was treated for injuries at the scene by Durham Rescue.
Route 136 was closed for about an hour and a half, Russell said. Traffic was rerouted.
Both vehicles were declared a total loss, Russell said.
Gary was in stable condition at CMMC on Friday, a nursing supervisor said.
