Duluth, MN : 31-year-old man seriously injured in ATV crash north of Duluth on Wednesday, July 6, 2016

A 31-year-old Duluth man was reported in critical condition after an all-terrain vehicle crash late Wednesday north of Duluth.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported that the crash happened at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 9300 block of Pequaywan Lake Road, about 25 miles northeast of Duluth. Authorities did not release information on the circumstances of the crash, but said alcohol and speed were contributing factors.

The operator of the ATV, whose name was not immediately released, was airlifted to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth; the sheriff's office reported he was in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet, authorities said.
