Tarzana, CA : Wrong-way driver flees 101 crash near Tampa Avenue early Wednesday, April 27, 2016

A wrong-way driver heading east in the westbound lanes of the Ventura (101) Freeway in Tarzana slammed into a big rig and two cars and then fled the scene on foot, but no serious injuries were reported, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash took place on the westbound 101 Freeway at Tampa Avenue about 3:15 a.m., according to CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.

The hit-and-run driver, a man between 25 and 30, fled the scene on foot after the collision, Kimball said. He was described as having blond short hair, a beard and a moustache and was last seen wearing dark pants. Authorities were searching for him this morning, Kimball added.

The collision temporarily shut down all the westbound lanes. The CHP reopened the No. 1, 2, and 3 lanes at 3:23 a.m., Kimball said.

A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 3:49 a.m. The No. 4, 5, and 6 lanes remained closed for the accident investigation and cleanup of debris, Kimball said. All lanes were cleared at 4:34 a.m. and the SigAlert was cancelled at 4:37 a.m.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene but no one was taken to a hospital for treatment, Kimball added.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
