63-year-old Kahului man died in motorcycle crash
A 63-year-old Kahului man died Friday after losing control of his motorcycle and colliding into a guardrail on Piilani Highway just north of Kaiwahine Street in Kihei, police said.
Clifford Spencer died at Maui Memorial Medical Center from injuries suffered in the crash around 1:56 a.m. Friday.
Spencer was operating a black 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling north on Piilani Highway, police said.
Police said Spencer lost control of the motorcycle and collided into the guardrail on the western shoulder of Piilani Highway.
Spencer was transported with life threatening injuries to Maui Memorial Medical Center where he died.
Spencer was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
North bound lanes of Piilani Highway in the area of the crash were closed from 2:30 to 4:45 a.m. Friday as police investigated the scene, according to a notice from Maui County.
