Morganton, North Carolina
Two people were injured and three were charged after a two-vehicle collision on N.C. Highway 181 in Morganton on Thursday morning.
The two vehicles were driving south on N.C. 181 around 10:45 a.m. near St. Mary’s Church Road when the collision occurred. A white Ford Mustang driven by Teresa McVey, 50, of Morganton, was yielding to oncoming traffic while preparing to turn left onto St. Mary’s Church Road when she was rear ended by a Nissan Xterra, said Trooper J. Allen with The North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Teresa Day Shuping, 45, of Morganton, who was driving the Nissan was charged with failure to reduce speed, Allen said.
After further investigation into the wreck, McVey was charged for driving while impaired and the passenger, Roy Pritchard, 50, of Morganton, was charged with open container, Allen said.
“She (McVey) admitted to taking medication prior to the collision and (she) had been drinking,” he said.
McVey refused to take an alcohol blood test, so results on her blood alcohol level are pending, he said.
