Colorado Springs, CO : Man dies of injuries from sledding crash on Monday, December 29, 2014

A man who was seriously injured in a Colorado Springs sledding crash has died from his injuries, police said Friday.

David Teets, 33, of Colorado Springs, was riding a homemade sled pulled by an SUV on Monday and was hospitalized when the SUV crashed into a parked vehicle. A police spokeswoman said he died at midnight Tuesday.
In an arrest affidavit for the alleged driver, Michael Miner, 43, police wrote that the sled appeared to be made from a metal bed frame covered with a rubber mat. Metal pieces were attached with string.

The crash happened in front of a Family Dollar store on South Circle Drive.

Miner was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and trying to influence police officers. Cassandra Caton, 27, was initially believed to be the driver and she was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center Monday evening. She remained in jail on suspicion of trying to influence a public officer when police found out Miner had let Caton take the blame because he had a lengthy criminal history and a suspended license out of Utah.

Caton posted bond and was released on Wednesday, and Miner posted bond and was released on Thursday.
