Williston, ND : 20-year-old man killed in head-on crash with a semi on Highway 85 in McKenzie County early Sunday morning, May 8, 2016

A 20-year-old Williston man died early Sunday morning in a head-on crash with a semi.

Police say Taylor Dopson was driving a pickup truck north on Highway 85 in McKenzie County when he crossed the median into the opposite lanes and struck a southbound tractor-trailer. As a result of the crash, Dopson’s truck slid into a ditch and caught fire, according to the Highway Patrol.

Dopson died at the scene.

Kyle Ness, 34, of Williston, was behind the wheel of the semi, and was airlifted to Trinity Hospital in Minot, where he is in stable condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The crash took place at 6:40 a.m. about four miles south of Williston.
