Savannah, GA: One man dead in two-vehicle crash along I-16 on Tuesday, August 4th 2015
One man is dead after a two-vehicle crash on I-16. Georgia State Patrol and Pooler Fire says a man in a pick up truck died after rear ending a tractor trailer. The pickup truck also caught fire.One lane of I-16 East was closed earlier today.It happened just before 8 a.m. at the Pooler Parkway exit. By 9:30 traffic was backed up all the way to Effingham County. The road reopened around 10:30 a.m.The GSP says a pickup truck rear-ended the tractor trailer. The semi driver moved to the shoulder, not realizing pick up was caught underneath.The man driving the pickup died.Pooler Fire Chief, Wade Simmons said a Garden City officer was on his way to work, not far behind the wreck when it happened. "The Garden City Police Officer and truck driver both used fire extinguishers and put out most of the fire. Our engine finished extinguishing the fire and we used the jaws of life to gain access to the driver but unfortunately he was deceased at that time."
