Portland, OR : Pedestrian struck by a car on Highway 34 near Cushman Road early Sunday morning, Nov 1, 2015
A pedestrian struck by a car as he was walking in the travel lanes of Highway 34 early Sunday morning has been identified by the Oregon State Police.
German Haro-Arellano, 19, of Salem remains in critical condition at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.
Lt. Bill Fugate, state police spokesman, said alcohol is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash, though troopers haven’t been able to interview the victim.
“I don’t think he’s been able to communicate. He’s still in bad shape,” Fugate said.
Investigators initially were unsure who Haro-Arelleno’s was, but they were able to track that down on Monday with a piece of out-of-state identification, Fugate added.
Haro-Arellano was hit at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday near Cushman Road. Road conditions were dark, wet and windy with a light rain.
Adrean Antonio Magana, 18, of Albany, whose 2000 Chevrolet Impala struck Haro-Arellano, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another.
