Jacksonville, FL : Man critically injured in rollover crash in Neptune Beach on Sunday, December 20, 2015
A man is in critical condition after he was flung from his vehicle during a crash in Neptune Beach.
Witnesses said they saw a car traveling east very quickly down Atlantic Boulevard then heard a loud crash.
Troopers said the vehicle jumped a curb and collided with trees and two concrete posts, which caused the vehicle to flip.
The Ford Fiesta came to a rest upside down on the sidewalk, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
“I saw an object up in the air, in the tree tops and then a loud crash right after that and bill of smoke,“ said Bob Parsons, who was sitting a short distance away from where crash happened.
He said at first he thought it was a plane.
“I couldn’t tell it was a vehicle. It was just really a ball of crushed up metal,” said Parsons.
The driver was taken to UF Health Jacksonville.
The accident shutdown several blocks in the area for a couple of hours.
“I couldn’t tell it was a vehicle. It was just really a ball of crushed up metal,” said Parsons.
Franklin Glick was walking along Atlantic Boulevard when he said the car passed him going close to 100 miles per hour.
“I watched him the whole time. I saw no brake lights,” said Glick. “And next thing I seen is a big puff of smoke and heard the loud bang.”
Witnesses said the car took out the top of a palm tree before landing upside down. They said the driver was ejected and landed hundreds of feet away.
The car was eventually removed.
