Monroe County, NY : Motorcyclist killed in Perinton crash on Monday afternoon, July 11, 2016
A man driving a motorcycle and his passenger were killed Monday afternoon after crashing into an SUV turning in front of the Wegmans on Route 31 in Perinton, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Cpl. John Helfer said the motorcyclist was driving west on Route 31 about 12:30 p.m. when the light at Valley Creek Road began to change, and a witness said the motorcycle appeared to speed up to try to beat the red light.
The driver was identified as Adam J. Mateo, 27, of Canandaigua. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Meghan L. Orbaker, 29, of Palmyra, Wayne County, was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she later was pronounced dead,
At the same time, an eastbound SUV turned left onto Valley Creek Road, and the vehicles collided.
The SUV's driver, Louis Ninos, 89, of Perinton, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Strong, Helfer said. His passenger, Chris Ninos, 53, of Perinton was not injured.
Route 31 was closed in both directions for several hours but reopened about 5 p.m.
