Claremont, CA : Bus crashes into pole in Claremont on Friday afternoon, July 29, 2016
A Foothill Transit bus crashed into an electrical pole Friday afternoon, prompting a power outage in the area and the Claremont Police Department to close Indian Hill Boulevard for about half a block south of Foothill Boulevard.
The incident happened at 5:30 p.m., according to an alert from Claremont police.
The driver was brought to a hospital with minimum to moderate injuries, Claremont police Sgt. Robert Ewing said. Another three or four passengers were evaluated by Los Angeles County firefighters at the scene but were not hospitalized, he said.
Traffic in the area was being diverted. Ewing said the intersection will likely be closed between 14 and 18 hours.
Ewing was told the driver was in training with an instructor present on the bus.
The initial report is that driver may have clipped a curb turning right onto Indian Hill Boulevard. The bus hit the pole, shearing it off at the base, and came to a stop in front of the Life As One church. The pole hung suspended by powerlines about 15 feet above the road, which was covered in branches and leaves dislodged by the impact.
