Gate City, VA : One person dead in fatal car crash in Scott County on Saturday October 8 2016

Virginia police say a woman is dead after a car wreck in Scott County.

Police say the wreck occurred on Ford Branch Road near Fairview Road on Saturday when a car ran off the road, went down an embankment and came to rest in a creek.

Police say the driver, a female who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger was airlifted to a hospital in Tennessee for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
