NASHVILLE, TN : Rollover semi crash causing delays at I-40 split south of downtown on Friday, December 9th 2016
A rollover semi crash is causing delays on Interstate 40 south of downtown Nashville during Friday morning's commute.
One lane of I-40 and one lane of I-24 have reopened since the crash happened at 2 a.m. The interstates are not expected to fully reopen until 9:30 a.m.
The tractor-trailer driver was on I-24 when he crossed over the median and rolled over onto I-40.
A police officer happened to be driving by at the time and was able to help the driver, who was pinned inside the semi. The driver remains in stable but critical condition.
The semi was hauling lumber for a log cabin kit. The load spilled all over the road.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
This area of the interstate is nicknamed "trucker's curve" because it has been known to cause issues for truckers in the past. Earlier this year, there were three rollover crashes within a two-week period. After those wrecks, TDOT put up a sign with flashing lights warning drivers about the dangers.
