Asheville, NC : Teen killed in a two-car crash at Long Shoals Road near a McDonald's On Sunday, May 15th, 2016
Asheville, North Carolina
Authorities are investigating two crashes in Asheville connected to a domestic incident.
Asheville police responded to a two-car crash on Long Shoals Road near a McDonald's around 8:50 p.m. Sunday.
Troopers said 19-year-old Avery Stephen Moses followed his ex-girlfriend to work and intentionally hit her vehicle in the parking lot of the McDonald's. Police said Moses was stalking the victim.
Moses is accused of kidnapping her and dragging her partially into his car before fleeing the scene. He then stopped on the right shoulder of Interstate 26 westbound for an unknown reason, troopers said.
Witnesses reportedly jumped in to help and took the keys from the car and helped the victim get away.
Troopers said Moses then tried to run across I-26 when he ran into the side of a passing tractor trailer. He was subsequently struck by an SUV and a car, according to troopers.
Witnesses told police Moses was distraught and "threw himself" into the oncoming vehicle.
Moses succumbed to injuries on scene.
All three vehicles involved in the collision stopped on the right shoulder. The westbound side of the interstate was shut down for three hours during the investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Detective Anthony Johnson at 828-259-5929.
