Greenwood, South Carolina
About half a mile from his home in Laurens, an Enoree prison's chaplain died in a wreck on S.C. Highway 76, according to Laurens County Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek.
Stuart Allen Edmisten, 56, of 1340 Wilson Drive, Laurens died after wrecking his car on Highway 76 and Barnes Road, Cheek said. The call came in at 7:58 a.m. Monday, she said, and he was taken by helicopter to Greenville Memorial Hospital, she said.
Edmisten was driving his 1999 Mazda Protege along Barnes Road when, at the intersection of Highway 76, his car collided with a 2008 Nissan van, driven by a 29-year-old man from Laurens, said Cpl. Bill Rhyne with the Highway Patrol. Both men were wearing seat belts, and the driver of the van was not injured, Rhyne said.
At 9:40 a.m., Edmisten died from blunt force trauma to his chest, she said.
