PULASKI COUNTY, VA : 1 killed in crash involving 3 tractor-trailers on I-81 on Saturday, 12th January 2019
One person was killed in a crash in Pulaski County Saturday night, according to Virginia State Police.
Virginia State Police said the driver of a military surplus vehicle was killed late Saturday after he lost control on Interstate 81 because of slick road conditions.
Police said Ronald W. Harris, 73, of Gainesville, Georgia, died after his vehicle was struck by two tractor-trailers. The two tractor-trailer drivers were taken to a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening. The state medical examiner determined Sunday that Harris' death was storm-related, police said.
The incident involved three tractor-trailers in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81. The crash shut down lanes in both directions. One tractor-trailer was stuck in the median of the highway.
A crash reconstruction team assisted with the cleanup. The crash was this winter first storm-related fatal crash.
