Chilton County, AL : two women, two children died in crash involving logging truck on U.S. 82 near County Road 337 on Wednesday, June 8, 2016

A crash today in Chilton County left multiple people dead and closed a highway for hours.

Corporal Jess Thornton with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed that a crash on U.S. 82 near County Road 337 killed four people around 3:30 p.m.

Thornton said that Destini Monique Davis, 21, of Montgomery, was driving a Nissan Pathfinder that struck a 2004 Mack tractor trailer. The SUV then caught fire.

There were three passengers in Davis' car- Tarlanda Davenport, 22, an infant younger than 1, and a toddler younger than 2.

All four were pronounced dead at the scene.

Thornton said that no one in the SUV was wearing a seatbelt or properly using child restraints.

The tractor, which was loaded with logs, overturned and blocked the highway for hours, causing troopers to divert traffic.

The tractor driver was injured and taken to a local hospital.

U.S. 82 was reopened at 7:50 p.m.

Alabama State Troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.
