Harrison Twp, NJ : One injured on Route 322 flipped-car crash on Friday, September 12, 2014
A Pennsylvania man was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital on Friday afternoon after being extricated from his vehicle in a crash on Route 322 near Rosie's Farm Market, according to police.
Robert Pittman, 20, of Chichester, Pa., was identified by police as the victim in the crash that occurred around 2 p.m. Friday.
According to Harrison Township Police Chief Thomas Mills, Pittman was traveling westbound along Route 322 when he reportedly swerved to avoid another driver heading east who had drifted into Pittman's lane of traffic.
As a result of the swerve, Pittman's vehicle traveled toward a utility pole and was propelled upward by the pole's guide wires. The vehicle eventually came to rest while flipped, trapping Pittman.
Downed wires in the impact resulted in a small brush fire in the area.
Rescuers were able to extricate Pittman from the vehicle shortly before 2:40 p.m. at which point he was airlifted to Cooper.
His condition is unknown at this time.
