Springfield, IL : Kankakee woman dies in car crash on Monday, August 7, 2017

Guillermina Arroyo-Rico, of Kankakee, died as a result of injuries sustained in a crash on Illinois Route 1/17 at Kinney's Corner south of Momence at 5 p.m. on Monday.

According to Illinois State Police, the 28-year-old Arroyo-Rico was northbound at the intersection of 500N Road and Illinois Route 1/17.

Arroyo-Rico failed to stop at the stop sign and was sideswiped by an eastbound semi-tractor trailer on Route 1/17.

Arroyo-Rico, the lone passenger in her car, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:36 p.m. An autopsy was performed today, according to Kankakee County Deputy Coroner Eric Cavender.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

A third vehicle traveling westbound on Route 1/17 was involved as it tried to avoid the crash.

A passenger in that vehicle, a 29-year-old male from Kankakee, was transported to Riverside Medical Center with minor injuries.
