Atlanta, GA : Athens man killed in 2-car collision on U.S. Highway 29 north of the Georgia Highway 72 intersection on Saturday, 7th March, 2020

A 49-year-old Athens man was killed Saturday night in a two-car collision on U.S. Highway 29 north of the Georgia Highway 72 intersection, according to Athens-Clarke police.

The collision was reported at 8:12 p.m. where a southbound 2001 Nissan Maxima made a U-turn and failed to yield to a northbound 2006 Kia Sorento, police said.

The Kia hit the Nissan in the passenger side, police said.

A passenger in the Nissan, Willie James Butts, 49, was transported to a hospital with internal injuries, where he later died, according to the report.

Neither the Nissan driver, Lucy Mae Whitlock, 66, of Athens, nor the Kia driver Phillip Stevenson Dennis, 61, of Athens were injured.
