The driver was traveling alone southbound on U.S. Highway 89 in a 2007 blue Dodge Charger through the canyon at 75 mph in a 45-mph zone, reported Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry. The driver veered into the northbound lane and slammed into the rock wall at about milepost 475 near the Dugway, launching the car up the side of the canyon before coming to rest back onto the side of the road.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the driver’s name has not yet been released.

The driver needed to be extricated from the vehicle before being transported to Logan Regional Hospital with serious injuries. Initial reports of his injuries included facial trauma, a right femur fracture and a dislocated right ankle, along with probable head and neck injuries. From Logan Regional Hospital, he was then airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in critical condition.
Perry said alcohol was found inside the driver’s vehicle following the accident and that the possibility of impaired driving is under investigation.
