Two minors from Maine, one of whom police said was driving without a license, were injured early Wednesday morning in a crash that shut down Route 16 in Newington.
Officers found an SUV facing west on the southbound side of the highway near exit 1 when they arrived at the scene just before 3 a.m.
Witnesses told police that a Chevrolet Suburban was speeding down the highway when the driver lost control, struck a sign and crossed three lanes of traffic before slamming into the guardrail.
The driver and passengers were taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed for about an hour while crews worked to clear debris from the road.
The accident is under investigation.
