A Bakersfield man was killed Wednesday in a crash in Oxnard, police said.
A vehicle driven by a 47-year-old Bakersfield man was traveling southbound on Ventura Road in the left turning lane about 12:45 p.m. as a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old Oxnard woman was traveling northbound on Ventura Road approaching Wagon Wheel Road, officials said.
For an unknown reason, the Bakersfield man’s vehicle turned left onto Wagon Wheel Road directly in the path of the Oxnard woman’s car, causing her car to hit the passenger side of his vehicle, authorities said..
Carlos Ramirez, 54, of Bakersfield, was sitting in the passenger seat of the man’s car and suffered fatal injuries, police said. Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals, authorities said.
The air bags in both cars were deployed and it was not known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, officials said. Oxnard police said the incident was still under investigation.
