Two people were seriously hurt in a late-afternoon crash at the border of Mequon and Germantown on Friday.

The crash happened at Wausaukee and Highland roads at 3:45 p.m.

When authorities arrived, they found a crushed minivan and a landscape dump truck with a trailer smashed in.

The 56-year-old Mequon driver of the dump truck was OK.

Police said the driver of the van failed to stop and slammed into the back of the trailer.

The child and the van driver, a 30-year-old Milwaukee man, were taken to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life.

The Germantown Fire Department said both had critical injuries.

A man who lives in the area told WISN 12 News the intersection is dangerous.

"These young kids, there is a little dip in the road and they like to take it a high speeds and try and go airborne, 'Dukes of Hazard' action, and we've had cars in our yard. We've had cars in the field. I've got a hubcap in my front yard right now,” David Baum said.

He said he doesn't allow his kids to play in the yard facing the intersection.
