AVONDALE, LA : Man killed in motorcycle crash on April, Saturday 15th 2017
A 44-year-old Houston man has died in a motorcycle crash at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale.
Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich tells The Advocate that Jesus Martinez was riding a motorcycle on a track at the park Saturday afternoon when he crashed with another rider and was ejected. Martinez was taken to University Medical Center but was pronounced dead that night.
NOLA Motorsports Park CEO Frank Christian says Martinez was participating in what’s known as an open track day, for which motorcyclists pay a fee to ride at the park. He says the park “offers its deepest sympathies and condolences” to Martinez’s family.
The JPSO said it couldn’t immediately comment on the crash because it happened on a privately owned racetrack.
Cvitanovich says this is the first death in the parks five-year history.
