Two people died Monday morning in a two-car wreck in Neshoba County at the intersection of Highway 16 East and Highway 491.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol identified the deceased as Billy D. Sodders, 78, and Haley Ellinburg, 10, both of Philadelphia. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, said MHP Sgt. Andy West, for Troop H and District 6.

The accident occurred at 7:21 a.m. about 10 miles East of Philadelphia, near Ford's Store, West said. Sodders was traveling north on County Road 491 when the Toyota Camry he was driving pulled out on Highway 16, colliding with a vehicle traveling east, he said.

Two other passengers in the vehicle, a 7- and 8-year-old, were transported to an area hospital for evaluation. One child was airlifted to University Medical Center in Jackson; the other child did not appear to have life threatening injuries, West said.

The driver of the second vehicle, Enerious Gray, 20, and passenger Roneisha Carter, 20, both of Forest, were also taken to an area hospital for evaluation, but did not appear to be seriously injured, West said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
