Chicago ,IL : One person killed killed and eight people injured after Chicago city bus crash on Tuesday ,June 2nd 2015
At least one person was killed and eight injured in Chicago Tuesday when a city bus jumped a curb and drifted down a sidewalk during rush hour, officials said.
The crash occurred around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Lake Street, Chicago Transit Authority spokesperson Brian Steele told the Daily News. The No. 148 express bus had only made one stop before the accident, and no one was inside except the driver, Steele said.
The bus smashed into at least three other vehicles before stopping on a Lake Street sidewalk, outside a plaza.
The one fatality was a 51-year-old woman, who died after being rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police told DNAinfo Chicago. Of the eight others injured, one is in critical condition. The driver, 48, also suffered minor injuries. Several others were treated on the scene and did not go to a hospital.
The injured also includes a 4-year-old girl, Ren, who hit her head on a car seat after the bus smashed into her father's vehicle. She was rushed to a hospital and her condition is unknown.
