Pelahatchie, MS : Morton High School football player dies in car crash early Sunday morning, November 20, 2016

The Morton community is grieving after the loss of a Morton High School student.

18-year-old Lane Bailey died in a one vehicle crash early Sunday morning on I-20 eastbound between the 70 and 71 mile marker. The vehicle flipped several times, ejecting him. He died on the scene.

Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee says Bailey, a junior, was on his way to go hunting early Sunday morning when the crash occurred.

Lee says there was another person in the vehicle, who was asleep and woke up to the vehicle flipping down the roadway. Lee says the passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Rankin County Coroner David Ruth was called to the scene just after 6 a.m. According to Ruth, the Pelahatchie Police and Sheriff's Department received the call at 5:56 a.m.

The cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
