Monroe, NC : 70-year-old woman killed, 2 injured in head-on crash on Highway 74 near John Moore Road in Monroe Wednesday evening on August 20, 2014

A 70-year-old woman was killed in a head-on vehicle accident in Monroe Wednesday evening. The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Highway 74 near John Moore Road. Officials said that Jose Herrera, of Reidsville, was traveling west on Hwy 74 when he crossed the center line and hit another car head-on. The second car then struck a tractor trailer. A 70-year-old woman, who was in the second car, was killed in the crash. Her husband, who was also in the vehicle, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. The victims' names have not been released, but officials did say the woman was from Marshville. Herrera was also injured in the wreck and taken to the hospital. His condition has not been released, but Monroe Police said they went to the hospital to speak with him about the incident. Police say the accident is under investigation.
