Janesville Township, WI : One dead, one in critical condition following Rock County crash on Saturday night, April 1, 2017
One person died, and one other is in critical condition following a crash Saturday night. Deputies at the Rock County Sheriff's Office were called to a two-car head-on crash around 6:11 p.m. on Wisconsin State Highway 11 near Austin Road in Janesville Township.
An initial police investigation says a black Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 78-year-old woman from Footville, was westbound on Wisconsin State Highway 11 west from Austin Road, while a gray Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a 43-year-old male from Janesville, was eastbound at the same location. According to the police report, the Jetta entered the westbound lane, and the two cars collided head-on.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital. The 78-year-old woman died at the hospital from her injuries. The 43-year-old male is in critical condition.
Alcohol or drug use are unknown at this time. Both drivers were wearing their seat-belts.
Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles, police said.
Highway 11 was closed for nearly two hours while crews investigated the crash.
