Memphis,TN : Pedestrian hit and killed after exiting car on I-65 South on August, Saturday 19th 2017

A pedestrian was hit and killed Saturday morning after exiting their car following a wreck on I-65 South near mile marker 86.

After a single-vehicle crash, a 34-year-old man from Antioch exited his vehicle and began walking north on the shoulder of I-65 South. When he was walking under the Fern Avenue overpass, where police indicated the shoulder was only two feet wide, he was hit by a Nissan Frontier pickup truck that was driving in the far right lane.

The pedestrian, identified as Brian Keith Reed, was transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

After the Frontier hit Reed, a yellow Xterra hit the back of the truck. The frontier had two passengers in the car, and all three of them, driver included, were treated for minor injuries at Skyline Medical Center.

The driver of the Xterra was uninjured.

The driver of the Frontier was charged with driving without a license and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Police say there was no indication of drug or alcohol use at the scene, but the investigation is ongoing.
