Shelby, NC : Two people in a road rage wreck on February, Thursday 8th 2018

Police charged two people in a road rage wreck that sent five people to the hospital Thursday.

Emily Nichole Murphy, 18, and Diamond Leeann Bar Scell, 23, each received citations for careless and reckless driving in the six-car collision on East Ozark Avenue near North Pear Street. Four vehicles were towed and police estimated the incident did about $26,500 in vehicle damage, though nobody suffered a life-threatening injury.

Gastonia Police believe the incident started as both charged drivers were speeding around 60 mph on the 45 mph road.

Scell’s Honda was in front of Murphy’s Chevrolet when Scell applied her brakes, according to police reports. Murphy was so close to Scell that she swerved to the right to avoid hitting the Honda, but lost control and sideswiped the vehicle anyway.

The collision caused Murphy to spin into the opposite lane, colliding with another car and knocking it off the road. Another car then hit Murphy, and a vehicle attempting to avoid the mess hit the fourth car in the process. A truck following behind also tried unsuccessfully to stop in time before colliding with a car.
