Gates, NY : Driver rescued after her SUV crashed off a suburban Rochester highway and landed in the Erie Canal on Thursday, March 10, 2016
Authorities say a driver has been rescued after her SUV crashed off a suburban Rochester highway and landed in the Erie Canal.
Monroe County sheriff's deputies say 38-year-old Kelly Antochi of the town of Greece was driving north on Route 390 around 4 a.m. Thursday when she left the highway, went into the median and down an embankment in the town of Gates, just west of the Rochester city limits.
Fire officials say the Cadillac Escalade fell about 50 feet into the waterway. When emergency crews arrived, Antochi was sitting on the side of the overturned SUV, which landed in about 3 feet of water.
Officials say she was treated at a Rochester hospital for minor injuries.
Police say Antochi told them she was swerving to avoid potholes when she may have over-corrected, causing her SUV to crash.
