ROCKFORD, IL : Rockford woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Saturday, September 9, 2017

A Rockford woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash early this morning just a few blocks from her home, the Winnebago County coroner said.

The 46-year-old mother of three, whose name wasn’t released pending notification of her family, is believed to have been on her way home from work when the vehicles collided, Coroner Bill Hintz said.

“The family doesn’t live that far away. Three to four blocks away,” said Hintz, who helped notify the woman’s three daughters of their mother’s death. “She was so close to home.”

Rockford Fire Department rescue workers and Rockford police were called at 12:21 a.m. to Island and Clifton avenues after the crash. One driver was extricated from the vehicle while the other suffered minor injuries, according to fire officials.

Hintz said there were no passengers in either vehicle.
