CREAL SPRINGS, IL : Fatal ATV crash kills Williamson County woman, injures man on Saturday, 27th February 2021
The Illinois State Police are investigating an ATV crash Saturday that killed one woman and sent a man to the hospital.
The two were riding in a Red 2000 Honda Rancher all terrain vehicle about 6:20 P.M.
Investigators say the vehicle was southbound on Illinois Route 166, one mile south of Free Silver Lane, Creal Springs, Williamson County, when for an unknown reason, overturned in the roadway.
Both riders were thrown from the vehicle.
Chelsey McKinney, 22, of Johnston City was transported with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver, James Holmes, 20, of Creal Springs was transported by ambulance to the hospital with serious injuries.
Holmes was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating a non-highwy vehicle on a street, road or highway.
The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit (TCRU) is expected to continue the investigation. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, according to the press release. ISP did not indicate if any of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
