Rochester, NY : Motorcyclist seriously hurt in Rochester crash on Wednesday night, September 21, 2016

A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in Rochester Wednesday night after a car ran into the motorcycle he was driving, police said.

Rochester Police, Fire and Frisbie Emergency Medical Service responded to Washington Street in the area of Fairway Avenue at around 7:15 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injury involving a car and a motorcycle.

When emergency personnel arrived they saw several passers-by tending to an injured man laying on Washington Street up against the sidewalk at the corner of Washington and Fairway. There was a motorcycle on its side on the sidewalk and motorcycle debris scattered in the intersection.

The other vehicle believed to have been involved in the accident was on Fairway Avenue and had heavy front-end damage. Police briefly shut down that area of Washington and Fairway while emergency personnel tended to the driver of the motorcycle.

Through police investigation and witness statements, it appeared as if the motorcycle, a 1983 Suzuki GS550LD, being driven by Gregory Downing, 40, of Rochester, was traveling east on Washington Street into the city when it was struck by a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, operated by Cameron Horne, 17, of Rochester, as Horne was turning left onto Fairway Avenue from Washington Street, police said.

Downing was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Horne was issued a summons for failing to yield the right of way, police said.
