Greenfield, IN: 5 injured in I-70 crash near Knightstown on Friday, July 17th 2015

All lanes of Interstate 70 in Hancock County were back open after a serious crash on Friday morning.According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, it happened in the westbound lanes at the 110 mile marker. This is near State Road 109 and Knightstown.INDOT reported around 7:30 a.m. that all eastbound and westbound lanes in the area would be closed for about 45 minutes because of the crash.Chopper 8 flew over the scene around 7:45 a.m. and eastbound lanes were open to traffic. There were at least six ambulances standing by in the westbound lanes, as well as two medical helicopters.Indiana State Police say the crash involved a single-vehicle, with five people inside.According to preliminary reports by ISP, the driver of a van apparently fell asleep and drove off the right side of the interstate. The teen driver woke up and over corrected the van causing them to lose control of the van. The van then rolled off the right side of the road.ISP said some of the passengers in vehicle were ejected.The driver was transported to Hancock Regional Hospital. Three passengers were taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital. Police two of those passengers had to be airlifted. The fourth passenger was transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. All of the injures were non-life threatening.
