Plano, IL : Plano man charged with driving under the influence of drugs following crash on Thursday, 12th December, 2019

A Plano man is in custody on drug charges following an accident early Thursday.

Plano police arrested Miekell Martin, 23, of the 400 block of Waubonsee Drive, on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled substance and leaving the scene of an accident after responding to a hit and run accident at 12:28 a.m., Dec. 12, in the 600 block of Konrad Court.

According to a press release issued by the Plano Police Department, witnesses observed a vehicle strike a tree and then drive away.

Officers located the vehicle a few minutes later, in the 300 block of Hubbard Circle. The driver, identified as Martin, was still inside the vehicle. After further investigation, police said officers believed Martin to be under the influence of drugs.

Officers then conducted a routine search of Martin and located pills on his person. The pills were field tested and identified as Ecstasy (MDMA).

Police said Martin was then charged with possession of a controlled substance and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

He was transported to the Kendall County Jail in Yorkville to await bond.
