Washington, PA : Former Observer-Reporter editor, Louis Florian, 77, dies after one-car crash on Sundat afternoon October 5th 2014
The former city and editorial page editor at the (Washington) Observer-Reporter has died following a one-car crash.
Seventy-seven-year-old Louis Florian crashed about noon Sunday returning to his home in North Franklin Township. He died early Monday at UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.
Florian was hired as a part-time sports writer in 1953 by the Washington Observer and became a full-time reporter in 1961. In 1973 he became city editor of what was by then the Observer-Reporter before eventually becoming editorial page editor until his retirement in 2009.
Florian played the organ at St. Hilary Catholic Church in Washington and was driving home when he may have suffered a medical emergency before crashing his car into a gas meter and tree. The Allegheny County medical examiner says Florian died from his crash injuries.
