Fergus Falls, MN : Woman killed, driver arrested in Otter Tail County crash Friday on July 4, 2014

A Texas woman died in an Otter Tail County car accident in the early morning hours of July 4.

At about 1:30 in the morning on July 4, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office received a call from someone who was camping on Franklin Lake, saying that they could hear someone calling for help on the east side of the lake.

Responders arrived and found a 2007 Dodge Caliber rolled over with two victims.

Passenger Holly Nicole Homewood, 29, of New Waverly, Texas, was found dead at the scene. The driver, David Shane Hamil, 42, of Cape Coral, Fla., was transported to Lake Region Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle was southbound on County Highway 31 and failed to make a curve in the road. The vehicle entered the west ditch, rolled and came to rest in Franklin Lake.

Hamil was arrested for criminal vehicle homicide, alcohol suspected.

Pelican Rapids Fire Department, Pelican Rapids Police Department and Pelican Ambulance assisted the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
