A 43-year-old man has been killed after the vehicle he was riding in crashed into a tree in southwest Charlotte early Tuesday morning. Police say the driver had been drinking.
According to police, 43-year-old Christopher Gerard Turner was killed in the crash along the 13800 block of Brown Grier Road around 1:35 a.m. Tuesday morning. This is in Charlotte's Steele Creek area.
Twenty-two-year-old Lola Porter was driving a 2007 BMW M6 and lost control of the vehicle along a curve between Gallant Lane and Griers Fork Drive, police say. She then ran off the road, the vehicle went airborne and hit a tree.
A person who lives along the road heard the crash and called 911.
Turner was pronounced deceased at the scene. Porter was transported to Carolinas Medical Center-Main with serious injuries.
Investigators say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
Porter was charged with Driving While Impaired and Driving While License Revoked. Additional charges are pending.
Neighbors who live in the immediate area tell a car crash isn't a rare sight on Brown Grier Rd.
The speed limit posted near the crash site reads 35 mph. Many of the neighbors complained drivers go much faster, sometimes double that speed.
