Eastern Oregon volleyball coach killed in car accident

The head volleyball coach at Eastern Oregon University died this week in a car accident south of Ritzville, Wash.,
Hailey Pearce, 25, a Walla Walla native, joined EOU's coaching staff in 2010. Prior to that she was an assistant coach at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., her alma mater.

Trooper Shawn Pichette of the Washington State Patrol said Pearce was heading south on Highway 395 in a 1993 Acura when she ran into the back of a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck being driven by Robert Pence, 67, of Lind, Wash.
The pickup was a rear escort for a farming combine being driven on the road, Pichette said.

Pichette told the Walla Walla Union Bulletin that Pearce was traveling the speed limit of 70 mph when she drove into the back of Pence's truck just after 3 p.m. Monday.
