Lawrenceville, GA : UGA student Agnes Kim injured in car accident released from hospital on Wednesday, 26th October 2016
The Snellville woman who suffered a brain injury in a car accident last April was released from an Atlanta hospital Wednesday, according to a news release sent out Thursday.
University of Georgia student Agnes Kim, 22, received extensive inpatient treatment from her injury and went through a rigorous rehabilitation program led by team of specialists in the Shepherd Center’s Brain Injury Unit.
“Ms. Kim’s family is grateful for the outpouring of support from the community; however, they continue to request privacy,” said Kerry Ludlam, a hospital spokeswoman.
Kim will continue rehab in the Day Program at Shepherd’s Pathway, the center’s comprehensive outpatient recovery program in Decatur for brain injury patients who no longer require 24-hour care.
Each day, they participate in training based in the facility and are re-integrated into the community, Ludlam said.
A physician oversees the rehab team, which may include a nurse, neuropsychologist, rehabilitation counselor, vocational specialist, life skills trainer, rehabilitation technician on an individual or group basis, or physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapists.
Kim’s friends have created a YouCaring.com web page called “Together for Agnes.” For updates and to leave encouraging messages, visit http://bit.ly/1OhVI3f.
Shepherd Center specializes in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with injuries to their spinal cord or brain.
The center is a private, not-for-profit hospital founding in 1975 and is ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top 10 rehabilitation hospitals in the nation, according to Ludlam.
