Palisade, CO : Two die in one-car accident in Palisade on Saturday night, July 2, 2016

Two people died Saturday night when the car they were in crashed into some sizable decorative rocks in Palisade.

The male and female occupants of a Toyota Corolla died at the scene of the crash, which happened at the intersection of G and 37.1 roads. Palisade police received a report of the crash at 10:06 p.m.

The names and ages of the victims have not been released.

The Corolla was traveling on G Road when it hit some big rocks that border a property at the intersection of 37.1 and G roads, said Palisade Police Chief Debra Funston.

The Corolla was the only vehicle involved. Because the investigation is ongoing, Funston said, the exact sequence of events is undetermined, as is the vehicle’s speed at the time of the crash. The Palisade Police Department and Colorado State Patrol are working together on the investigation, Funston said.

The Mesa County Coroner responded to the scene Saturday night.
